the New Bride Guide
all the TIMELINES & CHECKLISTS you need for easy planning!
Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but breaking the process into a clear timeline makes everything feel far more manageable, and (dare we say) even enjoyable! Starting about 12 months before your wedding gives you the space to make thoughtful decisions without unnecessary stress. Here’s a month-by-month guide to help you stay organized, focused, and excited as you plan your big day.
12 months out: it’s time to celebrate your engagement and share the news with friends and family! Begin discussing your priorities as a couple, including overall style, vision, and estimated guest count. Setting a realistic budget and deciding who will contribute financially is key at this stage. Research and book your venue early, as this will lock in your wedding date and influence many future decisions. Drafting an initial guest list and beginning research on major vendors—like planners, photographers, caterers, and entertainment—will set a strong foundation.
11 months before: focus on building your dream vendor team. Hire your planner or coordinator, photographer, videographer, caterer, and entertainment. Engagement photos are often scheduled around this time, and you can also choose your wedding party. Creating a wedding website and starting your registry helps guests prepare early, and it’s a great time to schedule your first bridal gown appointments.
10 months out: your vision starts to take shape. Finalize your theme, color palette, and overall aesthetic, and book your officiant, florist, and decor rentals. Reserving hotel room blocks for out-of-town guests ensures availability, while beginning honeymoon planning (do you need passports?!) keeps you ahead of the curve.
9 months out: it’s time for big style decisions—that’s where we come in!. Get your Blush Bridal appointment booked if you haven’t already yet! Say “yes” to the dress and place your gown order, as production timelines usually take 4-6 months. Choose attire for your wedding party, set up your suiting consultation at Jewel, book your florist, and order rental items like arches or lighting. Designing save-the-dates and planning engagement parties or showers also typically happen during this phase as well.
8 months out: send your save-the-dates and secure additional vendors. Book hair and makeup artists and schedule trials for later, arrange transportation if needed, and plan menu and cake tastings. This is also a great time to begin thinking about ceremony and reception music.
7 months out: focus on guest experience and aesthetics. Book your rehearsal dinner or welcome event venue, finalize decor concepts, and confirm guest accommodations. Choosing accessories like shoes, veils, and jewelry happens here, and if desired, any fitness or skincare routines.
6 months out: it’s time to confirm key details. Order invitations, finalize your menu and bar selections, book ceremony musicians, and confirm readings or rituals. Schedule your dress fitting timeline with your bridal salon and ensure wedding party attire is ordered. Transportation logistics should also be finalized around this time.
5 months to go: begin refining the flow of your day. Draft a wedding-day timeline with your planner, confirm photo shot lists, order wedding bands, and start any DIY projects. This is also a great time to begin writing your vows.
4 months out: mail invitations and prepare for the legal side of marriage by researching license requirements. Schedule hair and makeup trials, begin dress alterations, and order favors and signage. Make sure your bridal party has ordered their suit rentals!
3 months out: confirm final vendor details and update your timeline. Create a seating plan framework, attend your second dress fitting, plan welcome bags or gifts, and finalize honeymoon accommodations and activities.
2 months out: track RSVPs and follow up with guests. Finalize your ceremony script and music playlists, schedule your final dress fitting, and review vendor contracts and payment schedules.
1 month to go: you’re in the home stretch! Apply for your marriage license, finalize seating charts and decor details, confirm delivery times with vendors, pick up your gown, practice vows, and break in your shoes.
two weeks before: attend your final venue walkthrough, distribute the day-of timeline to vendors and VIPs, pack an emergency kit, confirm the final headcount with your caterer, and prepare vendor tips and payments.
final week: rehearse the ceremony, steam and organize attire, pack for your honeymoon, and focus on rest and hydration. Delegate last-minute details so you can stay present and calm.
wedding day: It’s here! Remember to eat, hydrate, and allow your timeline to flow with joy and flexibility. Sign your marriage license, savor each moment, and celebrate fully—this day is about love, connection, and the beginning of your next chapter together!
