Chicago Bridal Market Recap!

Good Morning Ladies!  I have an extra cup of coffee in my hand today!  This morning came pretty fast after our whirlwind trip to Chicago Bridal Market this weekend.  Here are a few of the trends that we saw in Chicago.  I am so curious what your thoughts are about each! Chime in please!

*Low, low Necklines:  Designers are pushing the envelope with the cut of necklines this season!  I feel like all of the deep cut necklines we saw were tastefully done with varying levels of illusion to accompany and add interest.  I do see this neckline being more difficult for brides who are fuller figured in the bust; there simply isn't enough structure to keep the girls looking their best :)

*Cut-out and Illusion Bodices:   We saw everything from full cut-out bodices (think Pnina Tornai) to illusion cut-outs on the sides of the gown bodice.  I am a huge fan of the delicate illusion cut-outs on the sides.  They were so well done; very tasteful and on-trend.

*Jeweled Wedges:  Our Blush Brides love their wedges by Badgley Mischka!  We were excited to see two new designs with a different heel height and strap option.  We also found the most adorable ballet flats to add to our collection at Blush!

*Colored Stones:  Our Blush Brides love their bling!  You know how much we love to customize every piece of your accessories at Blush :)  Ti Adoro is a great new designer we are adding to our jewelry collection this spring.  Our brides have the ability to choose stone and metal color for each piece!  What color stones would be perfect for your wedding look?

Hope you were able to follow along on Instagram using the #bethebuyer hashtag!  We had such fun hearing from our brides in real time about what they want to see at Blush!

As always, we'd love to hear your questions and thoughts!

Blush Bride Emily!

Emily and David: A Love Story

David and Emily met almost four years ago as freshmen at Nebraska Wesleyan University living on the same floor of their dorm. A year later their friendship started turning into something more, so at the beginning of their sophomore year they had their first date at Blue Orchid. David asked Emily to be his girlfriend on her birthday by writing in her birthday card. Their dating relationship included four seasons of football games, college classes, many trips between Denver, Lincoln, and Yankton during breaks, graduation from college, and now “starting our new grown up jobs,” as Emily puts it. “We have truly grown together and I was (not so) patiently waiting for a proposal.” In August, David told Emily to have her ring finger size and talked about an engagement happening "soon"... which turned into Emily waiting for a proposal longer than she originally thought. On Valentine's Day 2015, David took her out to lunch at Blue Orchid and to a movie. After the movie, they made our way back to his house. When they walked inside there were candles lining the kitchen. He started to head to his bedroom and when they reached the doorway, he handed Emily an adorable black lab, the couple later named Lincoln, and he got down on one knee! He was shaking and only managed to get out "Will you marry me?" and Emily, of course, said, "Yes!"

Piece of Planning Advice
Emily’s advice for other brides is to always take time to enjoy planning your big day. “For most brides [myself included], you have been dreaming about this day your whole life and the process goes by so quickly. I know the advice seems cliché but it’s true. Enjoy the process and the time with your fiancé because you only get to do it once!”

Searching for the Dress
“I went to Blush Bridal in February of 2015. It was the very first place I went to. I tried on about 8 dresses before I finally tried on the Casablanca Bridal Style #2163. Once I tried the dress on, I knew it was the one! It had beautiful lace detailing over the entire dress and a great mermaid fit, which I loved. It also had scallop detailing on the top and bottom, which was the selling point for me. It felt so romantic and fit exactly the way I wanted it to. Because Blush Bridal was the first place I went to, we left without purchasing the dress. Everywhere else we went that day, we were comparing all of the dresses I tried on to the “one” at Blush Bridal. At 4:30 in the afternoon it was clear that the Casablanca dress was “the one.” We drove back to Blush super quick because it closed at five o’clock. We tried on the dress one more time and I said, “Yes!” to the dress! The most enjoyable part of wedding planning for me was picking out my wedding dress! It was fun and very memorable to go with my mom and my sister. I think that was the first moment in the planning process that I finally felt like a bride!

Wedding Details
Emily and David got married on September 19, 2015 with their ceremony at St. John’s Catholic Church and the reception taking place at Chez Hay here in Lincoln. Emily’s favorite memory of the wedding day was right before the ceremony. David and Emily didn’t see each other before the ceremony and Emily really wanted the first time that he saw her to be in the church. They blindfolded him and said a little prayer together and talked right before. It was her favorite moment from the entire day because it was just them in a quiet space talking to each other about how excited we were to becoming husband and wife! To include David’s sister, who has cerebral palsy and couldn’t be with them on their wedding day, they placed a framed picture and flowers by the alter during the ceremony to add a personal touch.

Complete Weddings and Events - “Our DJ, Harry, from Complete Weddings and Events was amazing! He kept our dance going the entire reception and added fun, personal touches throughout the dance. He was more than just a DJ. He was always asking David and I if we needed anything and got us drinks. He was very helpful!”
Foto Eleven – “Our photographer, Shelly, was so easy to work with! We had a Pinterest page where I was pinning ideas and she would look through it to make sure I got all of the shots I wanted on my big day!”

Marriage Advice, So Far
What’s a piece of advice Emily wants to pass on? “The one thing we have learned in marriage is to always communicate with one another. Whether it’s about chores, finances, feelings, etc., it is important for your spouse to know exactly what is going on in your head so that you are on the same page.”

Made In China

When you first hear that most of the gowns we sell are made in China, I’m sure what first comes to mind are cramped, uncomfortable factories where people work in poor conditions with little to no pay. We’ve all seen the pictures of this happening halfway across the world and as consumers we don’t want to be a part of that.

After- Hours Bride Mollie

Sweet bride Mollie was our winner of an After Hours Private bridal appointment that we recently gave away as a prize at the Complete Music Bridal Fair back in January.  Mollie and 4 friends/family members were treated to an evening of bridal gown shopping at Blush where we catered just to them!

Mollie and 4 of her guests were treated to cupcakes from Le Cupcake, a Bachelorette party from The Corky Canvas, bubbly and shopping all while being photographed by Corey Rourke for an unforgettable keepsake of pictures of the day she found her bridal gown!  PS.  None of the pictures of Mollie show her in her actual bridal gown- we will save that surprise for later!

Chicago Bridal Market Recap- Casablanca

Casablanca is a line we love for its versatility.  Whether it is lace, satin, or fine beading, Casa has it all.  Two gowns to note out of this line this season:  a soft tulle and lace bodice design, also a beaded cap sleeve tulle design.  Truly stunning in person!

Chicago Market Recap- Justin Alexander

There is a reason that Justin Alexander is known for their lace patterns!  I was especially impressed by the lace detailed illusion neckline- sure to be a favorite for our brides.  Another note, they also launched a mix and match line.  We picked up the little tea length in tulle; it is so fun to accessorize to make it your own design!

Chicago Bridal Market Recap- Robert Bullock

I just love everything about Chicago Bridal Market!  The vendors, the food, the parties make for a fun weekend that I look forward to twice a year!

Each day this week we will be highlighting our favorites!

 Robert Bullock Gold Ombre

Robert Bullock Gold Ombre

Blush designer Robert Bullock introduced a hand painted ombre dress.  Available in both gold and silver, this dress was my very favorite at market this season.  Other notes from Robert include the use of structured bodices and plunging backs!
